SNOW EMERGENCY DECLARED
Towamencin Township is declaring a Snow Emergency beginning Saturday, January 24, at 10 pm and ending Monday, January 26, at 10 pm, due to the forecasted winter storm in the region.
During the snow emergency, the Township asks all Towamencin residents to remove their vehicles from roadways, even if they do not live on a posted “Snow Emergency Route.” Parking on roadways posted as Snow Emergency Routes is prohibited and subject to citation and towing. Parking on roadways hinders snow removal operations. This will ensure the streets are cleared by allowing drivers to plow without obstruction. Winter storms can rapidly create hazardous conditions. To protect public safety, the Township will enforce snow emergency regulations pursuant to the Township ordinance.
List of Township Snow Emergency Routes
In the interest of community safety, be sure to review the snow reminders below.
- Remove trash receptacles from the roadway or curb, store them close to your home or inside the garage.
- Remove all sports equipment, such as basketball nets, etc., far from the street line and secure for high winds.
- Sidewalks - should be shoveled as soon as possible
- Check the security and location of your mailbox. Snow removal operations can damage mailboxes that are not properly secured or placed in accordance with USPS guidelines (see picture below).
- Plowing of snow from your driveways/sidewalks into the roadways is prohibited by Township Ordinance and may result in a fine. The purpose of this ordinance is to keep our streets clear for safe travel. For residents who have a private contractor clearing their driveways, please remind them of this provision.
- Check on the elderly and frail in your neighborhoods. If you know of an elderly neighbor who needs assistance, we encourage you to help them, including shoveling their snow.
- Fire Hydrants - A fire hydrant can help save lives and property in your neighborhood. The Township and Fire Company request residents assist the community by keeping fire hydrants clear of snow. If you have a fire hydrant located near your home, we would appreciate your help in clearing the snow (see picture below).
- Travel - Residents are encouraged to avoid unnecessary travel during winter storms to support Public Works operations and snow removal efforts. If you must venture out, please take all appropriate precautions, including fully clearing your vehicle of any snow or ice buildup. It is also important not to follow too closely or pass plows.
- Snow emergency information is available on our website, and by Enews, and Facebook
REMINDER - Please be patient as crews work diligently to clear roadways as quickly as possible. The Township follows a snow removal plan that prioritizes snow emergency routes, then secondary roads. All roads will be addressed. Thank you for your cooperation, and please be safe!
