Sumneytown Pike Slip Ramp to Open October 12th

PennDOT announced that the Sumneytown Pike slip ramp at Old Forty Foot Road to southbound interstate 476 (Pennsylvania Turnpike) will reopen on Thursday morning, October 12, following ramp and intersection reconstruction. The ramp was scheduled to reopen on Saturday, October 7, but weather postponed final construction activities. Prior to the ramp reopening, motorists are advised of the following travel restriction:

  • Tonight, Wednesday, October 11, from 8 PM until 6 AM, a right lane closure will be in place on eastbound Route 63 (Sumneytown Pike) approaching the Pennsylvania Turnpike Lansdale Interchange for line striping.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when through the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent and subject to change.

Updated Paving Schedule

The paving contractor has updated their schedule, with paving resuming Thursday and Friday (October 12 - 13) for the following roads: Militia Drive, Lantern Lane, Carpenter Lane.  See updated schedule below for all remaining roads. The Contractor has posted street signs.

This project is weather dependent; work hours: 7 AM - 4 PM. Streets need to be clear of vehicles, that are parked along the roadway, before 7 am on specified workdays. We apologize for the scheduling confusion experienced to date and appreciate your patience while this work continues.

Fall Stormwater Tips & Reminders

Fall is the time of year when school starts back up and the leaves begin to fall.  As you are working outside and enjoying the cooler weather, remember these tips to protect our environment and water.

Leaf Litter and Yard Waste - Leaf litter and any yard waste can cause harmful nutrient accumulation in nearby waterways. Dispose of leaf litter and yard waste in a compost pile or use for mulch or fertilizer. Do not rake leaves into storm drains, streets or waterways.

Plant a Tree - Fall is a great time to plant a tree.  Trees absorb the runoff and reduce amount of water that will runoff into the streets and waterways.

Prune your Trees and Shrubs - Pruning trees and shrubs in the fall will give them a good start in the spring growing season.  It will also help them to use more water in the spring to reduce the runoff.

Aerate your Lawn - Aeration involves perforating the soil with small holes to allow air, water and nutrients to penetrate the grass roots for a healthy lawn.  Aeration helps the roots grow deeply, reduces soil compaction and restores your lawns natural draining ability resulting in less runoff to our streams.

If you observe pollutants entering the storm sewer or stream, please contact Towamencin Township at 215-368-7602.
