Sumneytown Pike to Close at U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike) Beginning May 2

While not in Towamencin, this road closure will likely impact many living in our Township and our neighboring municipalities.

PennDOT announced that beginning Monday, May 2nd, Sumneytown Pike will be closed and detoured approaching U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike) from Swedesford Road, May 2, for construction under a project to widen and improve nearly three miles of U.S. 202 - from south of Morris Road to Hancock Road in Whitpain and Lower Gwynedd Townships. The closure will be in place 24/7 through Thursday, May 26.

During the closure, Sumneytown Pike Road motorists will be directed to use U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike), Route 63 (Welsh Road) and North Wales Road/Walnut Street. Local access will be maintained up to the construction zone. Motorists are advised to allow more time for travel near the work area because backups and slowdowns may occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Spring Environmental Tips

brought to you by Towamencin's Environmental Advisory Council

Reset Your Water Heater Thermostat: After heating and cooling systems, water heaters are the second highest source of energy usage in the home. It takes a lot of energy to heat water, and most people have the thermostat on their water heater set way too high. Your water heater heats water to a set temperature, then maintains that temperature 24/7. That means that your water heater just cycles on and off, continually reheating water to that temperature, whether you use it or not. Setting the temperature on your water heater just a few degrees cooler can save you money on your energy bills and you likely won’t even notice the difference.

Downspout Planter Workshop - Thursday, May 12, 6:30 PM

Hosted by our Environmental Advisory Council.

Looking for a way to reduce the amount of stormwater on your property? A downspout planter that attaches to your downspout and diverts rainwater into the planter is a great solution! During this workshop, representatives from the Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy will lead participants through the steps of planting and installing a downspout planter at their home.

Participants will leave with a planter that is ready to be attached to their downspout. All necessary supplies, including native plant plugs, will be provided. There will be options for either sun or shade plants.

Workshop Location: Fischer’s Park, 2225 Bustard Rd, Lansdale, PA

Montco Pikes - Draft Report is Live, Public Comment is Open!

The Montco Pikes study team has been busy taking feedback provided on the draft improvements last fall to develop the future vision for the six selected Montgomery County-owned corridors:  Butler Pike, Easton Road, Germantown Pike, Geryville Pike, Sumneytown Pike, and Swamp Pike.  The future vision for each corridor includes proposed roadway cross sections for logical sections of each pike as well as specific locations for needed improvements, such as intersection alignments, turning lanes, and bicycle and pedestrian facility installations.

The Montgomery County Planning Commission is developing a final report detailing the vision plan for improving six county-owned corridors.  The #MontcoPikes study will be used to plan safety and operational improvements for people who drive, bicycle, walk or use transit along Easton Road, Butler Pike, Germantown Pike, Geryville Pike, Sumneytown Pike, and Swamp Pike.

Visit montcopikes.mindmixer.com before May 13 to review the elements of the draft study report that were developed for the six Montco Pikes corridors and provide feedback on the final draft.  Your input will be used to help refine the final report.
