Since the
incorporation of Towamencin Township in 1728 and as early as the
Revolutionary War, veterans of both foreign and domestic conflicts
have served and some given their lives for our freedom. At the March
28th Board of Supervisors' monthly meeting by a unanimous vote,
direction was given to Vice Chair Tom Hollenbeck to develop a
Veterans Memorial on the grounds of Firehouse Park across from the
Towamencin Volunteer Fire Company on Bustard Road.
In November 1996, Boy Scout Tony DiDomizio, as a member of Venture
Team 141 erected a plaque and placed a cannon at the site as his
Eagle Scout project to honor veterans in the same fashion. It will
be the intent of the exploratory committee to incorporate Mr.
DiDomizio's project into a larger structure, well lit and perhaps
visible from the soon to be widened Pennsylvania turnpike.
The design and funding sources for the Towamencin Veteran's Memorial
are now underway. A Veteran's Day, November 11, 2007 service is planned
at the site at Firehouse Park on Bustard Road.. |
